Is there such a thing as “steadicam light,” a pared down version of the professional tool designed to stabilize your recording devise? Actually, there is. More accurately, there are. Several brands have come out on the market selling such a piece of equipment; designed and engineered specifically to accommodate everyday devices from compact digital cameras to mobile phones with video recording capabilities.
Some might question the point of acquiring such an accessory for obviously lower quality—i.e. lower resolution and missing a lot of video specific controls—output device; but for a certain group of consumers, it suits their needs and solves the dilemma of not having to purchase another big (in size and price) gadget. Getting an accessory such as an affordable steadicam, the smallest version, is sufficient to meet their need to capture better quality video.
A steadicam that can easily accommodate your regular point-and-shoot digital camera or even your phone would be incredible. It would make this device small, lightweight, and easily portable. That would also mean you’re most likely to have it on you when the inspiration or the opportunity to shoot strikes. You could bring it with you on trips or have it on standby in the car.
So, for those questioning the wisdom of having such a device, while we may not all have an award-winning filmmaker in us, documenting our own lives and events that happen around us with a splash of color, a bit of story-telling, and a dash of fun, now that, is something within our reach.
